Before taking vacation or personal time, obtain a Absence Slip from folder hanging on the front desk in the main MBG office (107 Biotech). After filling it in and signing it, submit it to your supervisor. Supervisors should review and sign the slips, make copies for you and for themselves, and turn in the original in the appropriate folder hanging on the front desk.
If you are an hourly employee, record your vacation, sick leave and personal time in COLTS.
If you are a salaried (also called exempt) employee, record your time off in the LARS web-based system, which is located at http://cfprod.cit.cornell.edu/sandbox/ohr/leave/index.cfm It's quite straightforward to use, but if you want details, please e-mail Robin Lampman for an instruction sheet. People with academic appointments (e.g. research associates and post-doctoral associates) have a different sick leave policy than people with staff appointments. Your LARS balance will indicate if you accrue sick leave in your appointment. Please contact Sharon VanDeMark at if you have questions on these policies or use of LARS.
