protein null mutations:
Maternal Null by Western blot of embryos. it71 (stop codon at position 83 in predicted protein)
Treatment of N2 L1s by par-3 RNAi feeding results in sterility and it71 homozygotes from heterozygous mothers express wild-type levels of PAR-3 protein in their gonads. The basis for this expression is unknown, but could arise from persistence of maternal load of wild type protein (unlikely based on the extreme dilution of the maternal contribution), or from an alternative message that does not include the exon containing the stop codon. We conclude that this allele is null for the maternal expression, but is wild type for the zygotic expression.
Potential null:

par-5 (three mutations)
EMS induced: it55
mutagen unknown (ask J. Shaw): lw19, lw23
no par-5 null mutations
(RNAi leads to a sterile phenotype - dysfunctional gonad)
par-6 (four mutations)
mutator-induced: zu170, zu174, zu222
all three mutations are protein null mutations (by Western analysis of embryo proteins).
All three are insertions of TC1 into the 3' UTR. zu170 and zu174 have identical insertion sites. Antibody staining gives a signal in the gut of embyros from homozygous mutant mothers. This may be expression of PAR-6 that is regulated differently from the maternal PAR-6.
possible null allele: tm1425, larval lethal (available from National Bioresource Project for the Experimental Animal C elegans)
