Faculty Reporting
By Bill Fry
In mid-December, CALS will send out the annual request for information about activities and accomplishments for calendar year 2005 to all faculty and senior academics. The request is for three types of reports: the activity report that describes faculty accomplishments in diverse categories; Impact statements that describe how faculty activities have affected people and society; and an updated curriculum vitae.
The reporting vehicle will be https://hr.cals.cornell.edu/Quest. Department chairs will have the opportunity to beta test the system. It will be accessible to faculty on January 3, 2006, and the deadline for submissions will be February 15, 2006.
We intentionally limit the number of times the College asks faculty and department chairs for information. The deans and associate deans know these reports are a distraction, but the reports provide the College leadership invaluable information when we advocate on behalf of the College with policy makers, stakeholders, funding agencies, and University constituents.
New this year, also in early January, will be the fact that faculty Impact statements from last year will be available on the web. The Impact statements will be publicly accessible and searchable in a number of ways, including by key word. The availability of these data is very important because their use will benefit faculty, students, and stakeholders.
